Project 3 Mobility is looking for a Chassis Mechanical Design – Engineering Coordinator to work with the “Chassis PMO lead” and “Head of Chassis” to co-ordinate mechanical design engineering delivery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the outsourced engineering services teams deliver high quality, light weight, mechanical design & data into P3s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) toolset.

This person needs to have 6+ years of relevant experience in the automotive industry. We are looking for an organized, structured, analytical and adaptable individual with great inter-personal skills.

The Chassis Mechanical Design – Engineering Coordinator needs to have extensive experience of automotive mechanical design within the Siemens NX & Teamcenter toolset and chassis commodity engineering or programme experience.  The location of the role will be in Wellesbourne, UK. 3 days a week in the office hybrid working.

  • Report to the head of chassis – clearly communicate overall mechanical design status for P3a vehicle’s chassis.
  • Work with “chassis PMO” lead to develop and communicate KPIs relating to design maturity, issues etc.
  • Chassis lead engineering role to interface with manufacturing and virtual series’ teams and their gateways. Leading Chassis response to virtual builds and coordinating CDL/ readiness for VS etc. 
  • Chair regular chassis design reviews.
  • Support packaging and maintain overall chassis status.
  • Manage, track and progress overall chassis mechanical design related issues (in Jira issue management system).
  • Subject matter expert to co-ordinate Chassis CAD and ensure high TCe data quality. (e.g. advice on non-native CAD formats & releasing etc.).
  • Co-ordinating chassis BoM change activities and ensuring all associated BoM structures get updated (finance BoM, RBM BoMs, Purchase BoM).
  • Co-ordinating VS activities & any additional freeze activities for the chassis group (including NGD).
  • Coordinating high quality release activities from chassis engineering service outsourced support.
  • Awareness of chassis CAE processes and activities, checking model assumptions to minimise the overall weight of the chassis.
  • Manage and track chassis weight against target. Minimise un-sprung mass through design methods.
  • Mechanical Design & Commodity engineering of occasional parts that fall between engineering service contracts (e.g. solid brake pipe assembly).


Decision-making authorities

  • Consolidate chassis design issues and arbitrate which need escalation.
  • Chassis coordination & prioritisation of activities to support  Virtual Series deliverables.
  • Policing & driving Chassis CAD quality.
  • Release Forecasting, status, planning and tracking.
  • Management of the “chassis technical issues” meeting agenda, format etc.
  • Zero cost or cost reduction change management (mechanical design decisions).

Managerial authorities  

  • No direct reporting managerial responsibilities. Only management of outsourced engineering services targets/ tasks.


  • Lead the overall chassis team on design best practice.
  • Ensure new design is of a high quality – before it is released into the design intent buck.
  • Approving zero cost, mechanical design based, change.
  • Ensuring weight optimized, elegant mechanical design of the P3a vehicle’s chassis.
  • Being adaptable to ensure the “chassis” team succeed in delivering the P3a vehicle on time to quality.


Skills and qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or similar.
  • >6 years automotive experience.
  • Planning experience essential – ideally qualification e.g. Prince2/ APM.
  • Experience of chassis commodity engineering.
  • Experience of chassis mechanical design (CAD)
  • Experience of chassis data management including NGD in a PLM environment (complex systems).
  • Experience of releasing and quality checks such as GD&T

Software toolset

  • Siemens NX (solid modelling, drafting, basic FEA, basic surfacing).
  • Siemens TeamCentre
  • MS office 365 tools (outlook, teams, word, excel etc.)
  • Dashboarding experience – ideally in SmartSheets
  • Planning & development of Gantt charts (i.e. smartsheets, or MS project).
